I have been on a Red Kick...

Do you every look at your projects and realize they are all the same color? I noticed that this past couple of weeks.. I have made sock and 2 squares and they are all red. I am not even a big fan of red so its somewhat funny. Maybe I was in the "Loving Mood" For February. Lets talk patterns and Yarn shall we?

My socks were made from Knit Picks Imagination yarn. I love these colorways and am very upset they have discontinued it. I was lucky enough to have gotten several colors for Christmas from my hubby and mom. I used the Ruby Slippers color way which is inspired from Wizard of Oz. The color is perfect for the month of love. I paired the yarn with a very popular pattern called Hermiones EveryDay Socks.

The Yarn:
I love this yarn.. it is super soft and does not split. It has a good twist and a slight halo. The yarn is a variegated.

Super easy to follow and remember. I did get lost at times but it easy to find your place. It is a free pattern. Despite my best efforts of not getting off the pattern it happened.. my kids would stop me mid row or I would look up to see what they were doing or the watch the "dramatic" part of the show we were watching. However when this did happen I did not rip back. The beauty of the yarn is that is hides some of the imperfections of my knitting!

If you remember after each pair of socks I knit I am wanting to make a Barn Raising Quilt Square. I used about 17 grams 74 yards for my square. I still have yarn to make another and maybe do a Mitered Square. I love this pattern and it so one of those you do it once and you never need to see the pattern again. This pattern however can only be found in the book KnitAlong Celebrating the Tradition of Knitting Together. The book is on Amazon right now for about $14 and has a lot of great patterns... Just click the link and it will take you there.

The last square I worked on for February was from the wonderful people at Love of Knitting. Every month they are releasing a Block Square Pattern and a suggested yarn to use with it. In December you join yours squares and have a lovely throw. I was lucky enough to have won a skein of the yarn that was suggested for January. It is Cascade Avalon a cotton/acrylic mix.. You can sign up to get their newsletter and each moth the newsletter has a key word, on their Facebook page they tell you when to email that key word in for a chance to win a prize.

The Yarn: wonderful feel.. no splitting, holds shape well

Pattern:  This one for some reason was giving me a hard time. I was trying to read the written instructions and kept losing my place.. I then started just using the Charted pattern and it was smoothing sailing. I then just started using stitch markers to indicate if I needed to purl or knit and by the 2nd pattern repeat I did not need the pattern at all. The fabric made from the combo or the pattern and yarn is very nice. I could imagine a whole blanket from this would be a excellent knit and gift.

Etsy Shops and Tools of the Trade

Unless you have been living under a rock you should be familiar with Etsy. Its like a 24 hour, 365 day craft show! I love shopping on Etsy and the thought of supporting another mom or small business owner miles away from me makes me very happy. I do not get to order often but when I do I like to share some of the sellers shops that go out of their way wither it be a hand written note or little surprise stuck in my package. Since this is the first time I have posted about this I am going to talk about a few of my favorites...

***Again none of these stores asked me to brag on them nor was I paid in anyway.

The first store I bought from was Well Ravelled.  From Melissa I purchased her Crochet Pattern Cat-Hooded Scarf.  The pattern is super easy to follow and well written....She is also super great about answering any questions you may have. You can see my FO here. As much as I love the pattern I used the wrong type of yarn and mine was saggy. I have frogged it but already bought yarn to remake it!

The next purchase was from Sdspin. I purchased about 8 oz of wool from her to spin. Currently she has some discount coupon codes if you look at her shop info. She has wonderful dyed rovings and yarns stc. Right now she has some Nylon Top I would love to try and her prices are awesome! Here is the color way I would love to get my hands on!

Next we have PortFiber. their hand dyed colors are so lovely! I ordered a roving in green colors and it is super nice and fluffy. Right now she has some lovely fiber on sale like this one that I am in love with.. Please feel free to buy it and send it my way!!

Next we have Heather's shop Winemakerssister. Her stitch markers are sooo well made and I love how she sends them in a little bag with a free little bonus! She is also part of the Phat-fiber Ravelry Group. They have giveaways for those who purchase from their list of Etsy stores... see group for details.

Another store I shop from from the Phat-Fiber Group is Luthvarian Fiber Arts.  Meagan is wonderful to chat with online and has her own ravelry group. Her group is called Luthvarian Fiber Arts. Her fibers are Divine and her batts are uber lovely. Each time I have ordered from her she suprises me with a little gift. There is not a single batt in her store that I do not LOVE!  Like I said she is also part of the Phat-fiber Ravelry Group. They have giveaways for those who purchase from their list of Etsy stores... see group for details.

Spinatude has lovely resin spindles. I was lucky enough to grab my MonkingJay spindle from her shop. It was a birthday present from the hubby last year. Please if you are interested in a light weight drop spindle check out her shop. She has some lovely ones with dried flowers in them. Right now she has a little bee one that is perfect for spring!

For little sock stitch markers I suggest Such Gwenderful Stuff. She has great prices and shipping. I ordered these Winter's Night since they remind me of the White Walkers in Game of Thrones. Currently they are available in her shop and come in a little tin to keep them from getting lost.

For cute little gauges check out Girlontherocks. I ordered one of her little Sheep Spinners Gauges . It is so cute and even though I know I could just use a ruler to figure out my wraps per inch but why not do it on a cute little sheep. She had these little sheep ornaments during Christmas and I really hope she carries them again next year so I can order some.

A great place for Rolags is IvyRash. I have gotten so many compliments on my rolags I got from her shop. I am currently spinning them right now on my drop spindle. You can see my progress here. Her prices are wonderful and well made. She also sells other wonderful things. Right now I am drooling over some of her BFL in the fall colors and her mixed rolag lots..

There is one shop that I have not ordered from yet but plan to and that is Crimsonorchid. I found her shop today and she carries these bracelets that you slid the beads to keep up with row and stitch count. She has several lovely ones, but I love her Owl and Ram one. Even though she is in Canada her shipping prices are very low to the US and the price on her bracelets are very reasonable. These will make wonderful gifts for you knitting and crocheting friends.

So there are all the shops I have ever bought from on Etsy lol not many but I highly recommend every one. As I make purchases in the future I will review them and their products as well.... Have a wonderful Week!

Giveaway ~ Creative Knitting Spring 2014

Do you love sitting in the mornings, drinking your coffee looking over magazines and deciding what you should cast on next?? Well I do and I want you to have that experience too! I am going to be giving away a copy of the Creative Knitting Spring 2014 magazine. It just so happens I have wound up with two copies of this magazine so I decided to give one to you guys. Now before we get into this let me just say this is no way sponsored by Creative Knitting. They did not send me this magazine to review. I had signed up for a free trial issue in December I never got it so I bought one on my own. Then I got their "free" at the end of Feb. So I am giving away the free one :)

So the spring issue is loaded with some lovely patterns that make we want to have a super cast on party. You can see all 28 patterns here on Ravelry. There some really cute ones and I did not take pictures of all my favorites but thought I would share a few pictures here with you. To enter this giveaway please follow my blog and  I ask that you also click on the Ravelry link  and leave a comment on this post what you want to make from this issue. I will close the contest on Wednesday the 19th. I will then use a random generator to get the winner....

Meandrous Tunic

This is a great multi-seasonal sweater! I love the texture and the fact it is knit with sport so it will not be to heavy. I can see this is a pale lavender or a light green for spring time.

One of my favorites the Quickie Cardigan  is so perfect for our weather! I love it and the color. I even have a very similar shawl pin, maybe I am destined to make this. I would go with Berroco Vintage and use the Breezaway 5194. I actually bought yarn similar in this color for a Bolero in Love of  Knitting Winter 2014 magazine.
So go forth check out the patterns, post which one you want to make and follow my little baby Blog. Oh This little Blog is officially a year old. I know I have post from Jan but I backed posted those so I could keep up with my journey. I never really started the blog until the end of February.

I hope to have more giveaways as the blog grows so check back often.... Happy Yarning!
