Thanks Mom! — Yarn Treasure and Family Love

Do you see that pile of yarn in the photo above? That wonderful stash was a thrift store score bought for me by my mom! She found all of it for about five dollars — including two full skeins of 100 % wool in a beautiful red and some other mixed yarns in a lovely color combination. The green is a chunky weight, and the other two are worsted weight. I’m not sure yet what I’ll make with them, but it will definitely be something for me — something cozy to treasure.
I actually have a list of projects I want to make, but because I tend toward perfectionism, I find myself constantly tweaking and redoing things. For example, I recently finished a ready-to-sell hat but then frogged it back because I didn’t like the seam. After a little research and a few new techniques, I think my seams are better now. That’s the beauty of learning and growing in your craft — you never stop improving.
If you look to the left in the photo, you’ll see my cat Olie. He loves it when I come home with yarn from thrift stores because he knows I’ll get out the ball winder. He watches with fascination as the yarn unwinds and the glorious ball forms below.
My mom’s generosity goes beyond just yarn. I also wanted to share the beautiful blankets my mother-in-law made for my boys. The older blanket was made for our oldest when he was just a baby, and it’s now five years old. The green blanket was made for our youngest. Handmade gifts like these stay with your family forever, filled with love and memories in every stitch.
It warms my heart to think about all the ways love shows up in yarn, in handmade gifts, and in the everyday moments we share together. I’m so thankful for the women in my life who sew, stitch, hug, give, and encourage — especially my mom. 💛
