Alfo the Boogying Monster: A Fun Amigurumi Crochet Project

Meet Alfo. Isn’t he cute? He is a pattern by Stacey Trock, and I had so much fun bringing him to life.

You can see him and my Ravelry project page here, along with a link to the pattern:
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/alfo-the-monsterI made several changes to the pattern to make him my own. I added extra length to both his arms and his body. I also added pipe cleaners to one arm so he can hold it up and dance, because he is a boogying monster after all. I added some detail around his mouth to give him lips, which really helped bring out his personality.

The hardest part of this project was getting the striping to look the way I wanted. The legs, in particular, were making me a little crazy. It was not that they were hard, but getting the yarn to stripe just right took some patience. I redid the second leg several times before deciding to rip both legs out and work on them together so I could keep the striping consistent. I am really happy with how it turned out.

For this project, I used a 5.0 mm (H) hook and Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn Ombre in the Desert Sunset colorway. I also used small amounts of gold and orange scrap yarn for accents. I ended up using just under one skein of the ombre yarn. I even turned him inside out to give him more of a textured, scaled look, which added a fun detail to the finished monster.

I added three extra rows to the body and two extra rows to the arms, and the trim around the mouth really finished him off. Adding the pipe cleaners made him even more fun, and now he can really get down and boogie.

I absolutely love how Alfo turned out. He has so much personality, and this was such a fun project to work on.
