Random Acts of Kindness: Faith, Giving, and the RAK Group on Ravelry

I am sure you know what RAK is. If not, let me tell you. It stands for Random Act of Kindness. There are many, many different ways to do random acts of kindness. You can buy coffee for a co-worker, pay for the meal of the person behind you, or even put two dollars toward someone’s bill.

You can also do things that do not cost you a dime. You can smile as someone walks by, open a door for someone, or let the mom with the baby go in front of you in the checkout line.

You may be asking yourself why we should do things for others. Well, it is pretty simple. It helps make the world a better place. Things are getting rough out there. People are forgetting their manners and their morals. There is a chance that once you wake up, you may not even make it back to your bed that night. I can honestly say that I try to do things for others every day. Sometimes they are small, even silly little things, and people may not even notice. But I do, and so does God.

Last week I mailed out some embroidery floss to a stranger. Apparently they needed it for school use. I do not even really remember the details. I just know I had some, and I felt like I needed to send it.

Today, however, I was blessed. I have been feeling under the weather lately, and today I finally got to sit down at my computer. When I checked my email, there was a message from a lady in Boston. She had seen my post in the RAK group on Ravelry regarding my wish list for the month. I had wished for two patterns. One was the Easy Folded Poncho, and the other was a hat pattern by Amy Christoffers called the Mary Anne Hat.

I honestly did not expect to receive either one, but I did. My giver is from Boston, she is a blogger, and she is also a fiber artist. Her kindness reminded me that God sees even the quiet prayers of our hearts and answers them in ways we do not always expect.

If you are on Ravelry, please consider stopping by and joining the RAK group. Send a random act of kindness to someone. You may be surprised, because sometimes that kindness comes back to you when you need it most.

I would love to know, what is the last thing you did for someone else? Did they notice you or the act itself? Leave me a comment or post on my Facebook wall. Let’s change the world together, one small act of kindness at a time.
