A Little Organization With My Namaste BYOB Knitting Binder
If you have not figured it out yet, I am a complete freak when it comes to organization. I was absolutely ecstatic when I came across Namaste Inc. during the Christmas holidays.
Namaste is a family-grown company that focuses on thoughtful design, positive thinking, and creating beautifully functional organizational tools. They are especially well known in the knitting and crochet world for blending style with practicality and for encouraging intentional, joyful living through organization.
This is copied straight from their website at the time:
We believe in being more friendly to your wallet. We believe that style and function can be best friends.
We believe that everyone deserves coordinated organization.
We believe that Zen can exist in your handbag.
We believe that life’s too short to sweat the small stuff.
We believe in being kind to the earth and its creatures.
We believe in gratitude.
We believe in karma.
We believe in fun.
When I started my knitting journey, I also started learning just how many things come along with knitting: needles, cables, notions, tools, and more. Toward the end of December, I was incredibly lucky and won a giveaway hosted by Namaste on Facebook. I was chosen to receive one of their BYOB binders, also known as the Build Your Own Binder.
The BYOB is beyond awesome. It has a clean, sleek look, comes in a variety of stunning colors, and is designed to hold just about anything. The binder measures approximately thirteen inches long, nine inches wide, and one and a half inches deep. It also comes with a detachable wristlet, which I find surprisingly useful.
The BYOB retails for $39.99, and the pages are sold separately, so you can customize it exactly how you want. There are three different types of pages available, and I will walk through each one as I show you how I use mine.I was able to choose my color, and I went with Eggplant. The first photo shows the outer front cover. The picture does not quite capture the richness of the color, but you will see it better later in the post. I love how clean the front looks, with just the Namaste logo on a small piece of vegan faux leather. Yes, vegan faux leather. It does not feel cheap at all and actually has a soft, leather-like feel.
The zipper is sturdy and smooth, with rings on the zipper pulls that make it easy to open. You could even clip removable stitch markers there if you wanted.
When you open the BYOB, the right side has a large mesh zippered pocket. I use this to hold cable needles, needle extenders, and other long tools. Next is the Mesh Page, which features two zippered mesh pockets. Mine holds the cables for my interchangeable needle set. The Mesh Page retails for $10.
Turning the page, I have the Interchangeable Page, which retails for $15. This is by far my favorite part of the binder. The page has twenty-four slots total, twelve on the front and twelve on the back. Each slot is reinforced with an elastic strap, which keeps even very small needles from slipping out. I have a US 2 needle in the first slot, and it stays perfectly in place.
The last page option is the Long Straight Page, which also retails for $15. This page is great for straight needles or DPNs. I do not currently keep mine in the binder because I mostly use circular needles and magic loop, but it is a great option for those who use straights more often.
The back of the binder has two additional mesh zippered pockets, similar to the front. Mine hold my fixed circular needles. I am actually considering ordering another Mesh Page so I can store even more circulars, since those are what I reach for most.
The very back of the BYOB has a single zippered pocket, and I love this feature. It holds all the little things, extra end caps, the tightening key for interchangeable needles, and a few darning needles. Having this pocket on the back makes it easy to grab what you need quickly, especially during those knitting emergencies when you realize your needle is coming unscrewed mid-row.If you really want to get organized with your knitting, this is absolutely the way to go. The BYOB would also make a wonderful gift and works just as well for crocheters. I chose Eggplant, but if purple is not your thing, Caribbean Blue and Red are both beautiful options.
I hope you enjoyed this little review. If you have any questions about my BYOB or want me to measure anything specific, leave me a comment, and I will be happy to answer.
